We take our share of the responsibility! We contribute to carbon offsets by growing trees and crops. When trees and crops grow, carbon from the atmosphere is absorbed, i.e. carbon dioxide is absorbed through so-called photosynthesis. Cultivation also contributes to reduced carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere and helps improve living conditions in the areas where investments are made. Our method accomplishes two things at once; on the one hand, it helps reduce poverty, on the other, it contributes to a better climate.

 

Our efforts (through our suppliers) are concentrated in four countries around Lake Victoria in eastern Africa: Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania. The people there face different challenges depending on the climate and the geographic conditions of their particular location; some areas are plagued by drought, others by heavy rainfall causing landslides. Deforestation and climate change further aggravate the situation, presenting a problem to all countries: the climate becomes drier, and without the protective roots of the trees, the fertile soil is easily washed away when the rain comes. However, all these people have one thing in common: Their livelihood is determined by whether or not their harvest is successful. They live in poverty, often on less than 1.25 dollars a day. They are already being affected by climate change. With the help of trees, we contribute to a brighter future.

 

Furthermore, we will work to continuously improve our environmental performance and prevent pollution in order to achieve environmentally sustainable operations. We will strive to work with suppliers who, in their production, incorporate active environmental improvement efforts. To achieve this, all employees must have insight into how our choices at work affect the environment.
